Joey's Studio 2.0

The Expansion

I started as an intern when I was a senior in high school. I was given the responsibility of teaching all of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade percussion students. I was thrown into the ocean and told, "Here, you can't mess them up more than they already are. Figure out your own teaching methods and curriculum".

Me, being a scientist at heart, went down the experimentation route. I made mistakes along the way, of course. I refined the ideas that worked, scrapped the ideas that couldn't work in practice, and tweaked the ideas that almost worked.

I got lucky when an old friend joined as my assistant. He was with us for 3 years before we left for Spring Break and didn't come back after 2 years. We balanced each other's college schedules so that the percussionists always had someone there.

Joey's Studio owes a debt of gratitude to those involved with the 7 years of LBJ experimentation. Thank You!
